Sugar reduction has become a trend,Current UK juice and dairy drinks are exempt from sugar tax.

However, the UK Department of Public Health has proposed a sugar reduction target for such products.

It also indicated that the progress of sugar reduction will be included in the assessment system of 2020 whether milk drink is exempt from sugar tax.

The new sugar reduction guidelines set by the British Ministry of Public Health are part of the government’s plan to curb child obesity.

Sugar-reduced products, in addition to pre-packaged drinks, include restaurants, cafes, and related drinks sold in fast-food restaurants.

Milk shakes, sugary coffee, hot chocolate, juices, and smoothies are all expected to comply with the sugar-reduction guidelines.

By mid-2021, the British government hopes that the beverage industry can achieve the following goals:

Fruit juice drinks reduced sugar content by 5% (except for 100% juice or vegetable juice);

Limit the calorie intake of juices (including mixed juices, smoothies and single juices) in a single scene to 150 calories;

Milk beverages (milk substitutes including soy, oats, hemp seeds, and nuts) have a 20% reduction in sugar content

and limit the amount of calories that can be ingested in a single scene to 300 calories.

The Department of Public Health in the UK has suggested that these goals can be achieved by reducing product sugars,

reducing single product quantities, or promoting low sugar products.

Juice: It has become a source of 10% sugar for children

Juices and milk drinks are exempt from the UK soft drink industry tax because of their nutritional value.

However, the British Department of Public Health said that these two types of products also play an important role in sugar reduction.

This juice alone accounts for 10% of the daily sugar intake of people aged 4-18 years.

Overall, current children’s sugar intake is more than twice as much as the recommended intake.

Samantha Montel, dietitian of the Department of Public Health in the United Kingdom,

 said: “Milk shakes, hot chocolate and fruit juice drinks have a major impact on children’s sugar intake.

Excess sugar intake is one of the main causes of children’s overweight, obesity and tooth decay after entering primary school. ."

“To reduce the sugar that people buy and consume, the beverage industry plays a key role in helping to solve this problem.

We have already seen positive signs of industry release and hope to raise it further to solve this problem.”

The Department of Public Health in the UK has recommended that the public limit the total amount of juice or sand ice that can be consumed in a daily volume of 150 milliliters

 - and only with meals - to stay accustomed. Five fruits and vegetables a day, 150 ml of juice or sand ice can be regarded as the maximum intake of one meal.

According to news, the British Department of Public Health has proposed to the food industry that by 2020 it will reduce the sugar content of a large number of food products by 20%.
